One breath poem

lonely night?
rolling down my throat
the fat tire
Contributed by Dustin Neal.

Editor’s Note: You may notice that this haiku is not of the 5,7,5 syllable variety. The 5,7,5 rule is strictly followed in Japanese language haiku. In other languages, the rules are less strict due to variations in pronunciation or the effects of translation. I like the limitations of 5,7,5 and try to follow it as best I can in my haiku. However, rules are made to be broken, and Dustin does a good job of capturing the haiku essense in extraordinarily brief language without the syllable conventions. If you are new to haiku writing, I recommend that you follow the 5,7,5 convention. Once you have fallen in love with the form, there are many directions and philosophies you can follow. Cheers!
