References: I saw Hop Stoopid by Lagunitas Brewing Company at my local shop this week and decided I needed to give it a try. By the name alone, I expected hops to come bleeding out my ears. I expected it to be a ridiculous hopragious undrinkable mess. The thing is… it is actually quite drinkable. I have a difficult time believing I’m staring 102 IBU dead in the face. There are a lot of hops mind you. A lot of aroma, in-your-face hops. They just don’t show up all on the bitter side. In addition the malt backbone is standing tall. It adequately stands up to the large amount of hops present and it doesn’t just do it in that thick and sticky way that some blatantly high hop beers do. I could actually drink a couple of glasses of this in a single sitting without looking like a raised pinky sippy wuss. In fact I just have. Good job Lagunitas on creating a miracle of mega hop balance. Unless of course you are lying about the 102 IBU. If that’s the case, well… then good job anyway, but stop lying.
